‘Frankie’s’ set to return to the Stan James Guineas Festival

Thursday 21st February, 2008

Frankie's

Top Jockey, Frankie Dettori, and Top Chef, Restaurateur and star of Hell’s Kitchen, Marco Pierre White, will once again be bringing their restaurant brand, ‘Frankie’s Bar and Grill’, to the Stan James Guineas Festival on Sunday 4th May, as part of Newmarket Racecourse’s ‘Sunday Lunch with a difference’ theme.

Frankie and Marco currently operate 4 ‘Frankie’s’ in London and have recently opened two others in Shanghai and Dubai. On Sunday 4th May, the Frankie’s brassiere style atmosphere will be re-created at the historic NatWest Rowley Mile and ‘Frankie’s’ Head Chef will prepare and serve some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes.

Following on from its success in 2007, in which all places at both sittings sold out in record time, a third sitting had been added for 2008. The sittings will be timed (11.30am – 1pm), (1.15pm – 3.30pm) and (4pm – 6pm). The late sitting is the new addition for 2008 and offers a relaxing late-lunch and miss the traffic option for race goers.

The ‘Frankie’s at the Guineas’ package is priced at £90 inc. VAT per person per sitting or £50 inc. VAT for children under 12 years of age and includes:

  • Admission into Premier Enclosure for one of Britain’s most iconic race days.
  • A 3-course lunch served in the ‘‘Frankie’s at the Guineas’ restaurant Marquee.

The Stan James Guineas Festival at Newmarket Racecourses ‘Home of Horseracing’

Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th May

The Stan James Guineas Festival is Newmarket’s showcase event featuring the first two classic races in the British racing calendar, the Stan James 2000 Guineas (on the Saturday) and the Stan James 1000 Guineas (on the Sunday) and is staged at the impressive NatWest Rowley Mile.

The NatWest Rowley Mile is arguably the most historic major sporting venue in the world today. Named after Old Rowley, a nickname given both to Charles II and his faithful hack, the Rowley Mile has hosted flat racing for three and a half centuries. The unique, straight Rowley Mile course is largely unchanged since that time – just the stands are new – and it is on this hallowed turf that the latest champions will emerge at this year’s Stan James Guineas Festival.

Both the Stan James 2000 Guineas for colts (fillies can also take part, but do so very rarely), which was first run in 1809 and Stan James 1000 Guineas for fillies, for which the inaugural running was in 1814, are ran over a mile and represent the first big test for the three-year-old “classic” generation. The Derby, Oaks and Ladbrokes St Leger follow later in the season - it is at Newmarket that reputations are put on the line for the first time. In Saturday 3rd May, it is the 200th running of The Stan James 2000 Guineas with lots of special events planned for the day.

Many of the greatest names in the history of the turf have triumphed in these historic races, including in the modern era the likes of Nijinsky, Brigadier Gerard, Dancing Brave, Nashwan, Oh So Sharp, Pebbles and Miesque.
