Good Going Predicted

Tuesday 2nd October, 2007

Newmarket’s NatWest Rowley Mile plays host to three fabulous days of racing on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 4, 5 and 6, for the totesport Cambridgeshire meeting.

The going at Newmarket is currently GOOD.

Michael Prosser, Clerk of the Course and Director of Racing at Newmarket, reported today: "The going is currently good with a GoingStick reading of 7.9.

"We have had some light rain so far today and the forecast is for nothing particularly heavy over the next couple of days. There is a possibility of up to three or four millimetres of rain prior to racing on Thursday.

"If the forecast rainfall is correct, that will merely maintain the status quo with the ground.

"Friday and Saturday at this stage are forecast to be dry and temperatures will rise progressively through the week, culminating in about 19 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

"The track has been narrowed to accommodate a maximum field of 35 for the totesport.com Cambridgeshire on the Saturday.

"The average GoingStick reading is 7.9 from the mile and six furlong start. Up the home straight, what is interesting, is both the stands’ side reading and the far side reading are 8.0."

Looking ahead to the superb three-day feast of racing, Prosser said: "Friday's card could have a big impact on the quest to be Europe's champion two-year-old and the betting for next year's Stan James 2000 and 1000 Guineas.

"A good victory for Visit in the Cheveley Park, for instance, could see her overtake Listen in the two-year-old filly ratings, while victory for the unbeaten Winker Watson in the Shadwell Middle Park would see him climb up the ratings in the quest to be champion two-year-old colt.

"Both races are looking really strong, with a powerful Irish challenge taking on the British-trained horses, plus Natagora making the journey from France for the Cheveley Park. She arrives here on Thursday.

"Saturday’s card offers one of the most competitive handicaps of the season, the totesport.com Cambridgeshire, alongside what promises to be a wonderful renewal of the Group One Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes with the two most recent winners of the Stan James 1000 Guineas, Finsceal Beo and Speciosa, as well as Group One winners Echelon, Nannina and Simply Perfect."
