Betfair Newmarket Open Day - Sunday 22nd September
The Betfair Newmarket Open Day will this year be held on Sunday 22nd September. Known as the headquarters of horseracing in the UK, Newmarket in Suffolk will once again open its doors to the public, providing a unique insight into the day to day running of some of the world’s most successful racing stables. In addition to this fantastic opportunity, there will be a fun-filled program of activities and entertainment suitable for the whole family at the racecourse in the afternoon.
The day begins at 9am when top trainers will canter horses on the Warren Hill gallops whilst giving commentaries on each horse. From 9.30am to 1pm up to 30 trainers including Ed Dunlop and Luca Cumani will open their yards, providing the opportunity to see behind-the-scenes of the running and daily routines of their training operations. This will also give visitors a chance to meet some of Newmarket’s famous four-legged athletes.
Other equine facilities open throughout the day include the Newmarket Equine Hospital, a centre of excellence and the most modern equine hospital in Europe, the National Horseracing Museum, the British Racing School and the National Stud, which has been situated in Newmarket since 1963.
The afternoon sees the Rowley Mile Racecourse open up for an exciting range of activities, displays and trade stands. Events will include Scurry Driving and an all-star cast of top trainers v jockeys will battle it out in a 5 aside football match. There will be a wide range of trade stands situated around the racecourse selling everything from clothing and jewellery to delicious pies and cakes. In addition children’s entertainment and pony rides will be running during the afternoon, so throughout the day there really is something for everyone.

The three charity beneficiaries of this year’s Open Day will be the British Racing School, The National Horseracing Museum and the New Astley Club, a social welfare charity with the aim of building strong links within the racing community, particularly in Newmarket.
