Do and Don't's of Racing

DO go to the parade ring before at least one race – it’s a great opportunity to see the horses, jockeys and trainers and soak up the pre-race atmosphere.

DO go and watch one race from the rail nearest the track, especially when there are lots of runners.  The thunder of hooves as they charge towards the winning post is awesome!

DO give yourself a bank of money to bet with that you’re absolutely happy to lose.  If you lose it all, you won’t leave yourself short.  If you win, you’ll be over the moon!

DON’T use flash photography near the horses – it can frighten them and cause an accident.

DON’T put you whole betting bank on the first race – you might have nothing left for race two!  It’s much better to divide your bank across the 7 races so you have an interest in all of them.

DON’T expect to have a boring time! An afternoon at Newmarket Races with family or friends should leave you scouring your diary to find another opportunity to experience the excitement and stimulation of a day at the races.
