About us
Newmarket is one of 14 racecourses that are owned in trust by Jockey Club Racecourses.
Though looked as a single entity within the Jockey Club Racecourses' portfolio, Newmarket in fact has two distinct racecourses - the NatWest Rowley Mile, where racing takes place in the spring and autumn, and the July Course, where racing is staged during the summer months. Hence we are called "Newmarket Racecourses", in the plural.
The welfare of racing is the principal concern and primary goal of Jockey Club Racecourses’ business. All business profits, whether from race meetings or other business activities, are reinvested in the sport. Indeed, Jockey Club Racecourses are currently rolling out a £120 million investment programme to improve the courses and their facilities. Newmarket is one of the courses to benefit this year with a £10m redevelopment scheme on the July Course which is set to transform our much loved summer racecourse.
