DISCOURSE looked a filly of the highest calibre when landing the German-Thoroughbred.com Sweet Solera Stakes under Frankie Dettori.
Dettori, who was completing a double on the afternoon, rode the 11/4 shot with plenty of confidence and she produced a smart turn of foot to win by four and a half lengths.
The daughter of Street Cry had won on her debut here on the July Course six weeks ago when she beat subsequent Cherry Hinton winner, Gamilati, and she is now a 10/1 chance for next season’s QIPCO 1000 Guineas.
Godolphin’s Charlie Appleby said: “Before she ran first time we thought she was a very nice filly but she has done very well physically since that run.
“She was quite impressive today and Frankie said that he always felt she was going to win. She’s in the Fillies’ Mile and all the big races but anything she does this year is a bonus as she has three-year-old written all over her.”
Dettori’s first winner of the afternoon came aboard the Kevin Ryan-trained Captain Ramius (5/1F) in the Baden-racing.com handicap.
Godolphin’s good day continued when they introduced another smart looking filly in the form of Minidress who took the Watch German Races Live at german-tote.com maiden.
This time it was Ahmed Ajtebi who did the steering but this daughter of Street Cry romped home by four lengths.
Appleby added: “She had been working nicely although she has no big entries as she’s very weak so will need plenty of time after this.”
Jamie Spencer produced a fine front-running ride to win the Hoppegarton.com handicap aboard Classic Punch (8/1).
The David Elsworth-trained gelding has now won four times at this course and won easily by a length and a half.
8/11 shot Cops And Robbers had to work hard to get off the mark in the Royal British Legion maiden but eventually came out on top by a short head for trainer Sir Michael Stoute and jockey Richie Mullen.
Danvilla (4/1F) was the extremely game winner of the Red Lion Foods handicap under a strong front running ride by William Carson while Pinch of Posh was the shock 40/1 winner of the concluding EBF ‘Virtual’ Fillies’ handicap for trainer Paul Cole and jockey Fergus Sweeney.
Racing resumes on the July Course on Thursday 11 August.
