TRAINER David Elsworth continued his tremendous record on the July Course with a double on the day courtesy of Swiss Dream (11/2) and Elusive Flame (9/1).
Lordship Stud’s Swiss Dream gained some valuable ‘black type’ when making every yard of the running to win the Chris Blackwell Memorial Hopeful Stakes under Nicky Mackay.
A thrilled Elsworth said: “It’s great to get some ‘black type’ with this filly as she comes from a very strong family most of which I have been lucky enough to train. She is very straight forward and did it very nicely today.”
Mackay was also aboard Elusive Flame who shed her maiden tag in the Russian Standard Vodka EBF maiden.
The daughter of Elusive City relished the soft underfoot conditions and quickened up in good style to win by three-quarters of a length from the fast finishing Money Never Sleeps.
There was a tremendous finish to the £100,000 Tattersalls Millions Median Auction Stakes with Mehdi just getting the better of the red-hot favourite Samitar.
The Brian Meehan-trained colt, a 50,000guineas purchase, travelled strongly under Shane Kelly before engaging in a duel with Samitar over a furlong from home.
The pair were neck and neck but it was Mehdi who came out on top, scoring by a short head.
Meehan said: “He’s a good horse and is definitely a Stakes performer in the making. It worked making more use of him. I think we’ll look at something like the Mill Reef now.”
Amazing Storm got favourite backers off to a good start with a game victory in the Novae Bloodstock Insurance Nursery handicap for trainer Richard Hannon and jockey Patt Dobbs.
The 9/4 favourite was forced to work hard by the pacesetting Storming Bernard but was well on top at the finish, winning by a neck.
Status Symbol (33/1) was given a good ride by William Carson to win the Burts Chips Made In Devon handicap for trainer Giles Bravery.
Dare To Dance could be targeted at the totesport.com Cambridgeshire handicap following his impressive win in the University of Cambridge Veterinary School Trust handicap under Jamie Spencer.
The Danehill Dancer colt, trained by Jeremy Noseda, has now won two of his three career starts.
The concluding Turf TV handicap was won by Judge'n Jury for trainer Ron Harris and jockey David Probert.
Newmarket's autumn season kicks off back on the Rowley Mile on Friday 16th September.
