LYRIC of Light cemented herself at the top of the two-year-old fillies’ division with a game success in the Group 1 Shadwell Fillies’ Mile for Godolphin and Frankie Dettori.
Trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni, the daughter of Street Cry travelled sweetly before Dettori pressed the button a furlong from home.
The pacesetter Samitar stuck to her guns firmly but Lyric of Light was too strong and went on to win by a head.
Dettori said: "She's a superstar of a filly and only does what she has to do.
Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford added: “Frankie felt she got a bit unbalanced, but she finished the race very well.
“We'll have to talk to Sheikh Mohammed about whether she runs again this season, I suspect not, but there is always the Breeders' Cup to think about.
“This race is always a good guide to next year's Guineas, even though the ground was a bit quicker than usual. We definitely see her as a Guineas horse.”
Ransom Note returned to his favourite track to run out an impressive winner of the Nayef Joel Stakes providing trainer Charlie Hills with his first Stakes winner since taking over the licence from his father Barry.
The son of Red Ransom, a 4/1 chance, made every yard of the running and powered out of the dip to win by two and a quarter lengths.
The trainer said: “He won here early in the year and we have given him a break since Royal Ascot. He is in the Champion Stakes so we may go there and then perhaps to Dubai and Hong Kong this winter.”
Alsindi could step up to Group 1 company as soon as next week following her tiumph in the opening Sakhee Oh So Sharp Stakes.
The Clive Brittain-trained filly struck close home under Tom Queally to beat Questing by a neck.
A delighted Brittain said: “She could run in the Prix Marcel Boussac next weekend. I think she is ready for a step up to Group 1 company and she is a filly with a future.”
Neil Callan was seen at his best aboard Dark Promise who took the Mawatheeq Rosemary Stakes for trainer Roger Varian.
Callan set perfect fractions from the front and the daughter of Shamardal repelled all challenges to win by a length.
Varian said: “She is improving and fast ground brings out the best in her.”
Mahbooba (3/1) romped to a six length success in the Aqlaam Godolphin Stakes for trainer Mike de Kock and jockey Pat Cosgrave.
Spiritual Star looked like a star in the making with a hugely impressive win in the Haafhd EBF maiden for trainer Andrew Balding and jockey Jimmy Fortune.
Fortune was another to make all the running and his mount quickened clear to win by six lengths.
Balding and Fortune completed a memorable double when Arabian Star (12/1) struck in the Silver Cambridgeshire, the Standing for Success handicap.
The son of Green Desert engaged in an almighty battle with Classic Colori but got the better of that rival by a head.
The finale, the Newmarket Challenge Whip, went to the Brian Meehan-trained Vita Lika rounding off a good day for Frankie Dettori.
Betfred Cambridgeshire day kicks off tomorrow at 2:05.
