Mayson storms to Darley July Cup success

Mayson

MAYSON provided champion jockey Paul Hanagan with his first domestic Group 1 success when storming to victory in the Darley July Cup.

Trained by Hanagan's former boss, Richard Fahey, Mayson made virtually all the running and scooted clear up the hill to record a five-length victory.

The Cheka ran on gamely to take second while the favourite, Society Rock filled third position.

Hanagan said: “He really enjoyed himself out in front and the big positive was that he loves the ground.

“He jumped so well and I didn't want to take him back and I knew if I could keep him going he'd be hard to peg back - which he was. He's got a lot of speed but I'd rather be looking at races over six furlongs rather than the Nunthorpe.”

The 32Red.com Superlative Stakes went the way of 6/4 favourite Olympic Glory for trainer Richard Hannon and jockey Richard Hughes.
