Strong entries for lucrative Tattersalls races
The two most valuable races in the 2010/11 Tattersalls Millions, the Tattersalls Millions 2YO Trophy, worth £500,000, and the £300,000 Tattersalls Millions 2YO Fillies’ Trophy take place this Saturday 2 October at Newmarket.
The two 7f contests have seen a strong set of entries at the five-day stage with a total of 60 horses left in the £500,000 race, which is the most valuable two-year-old race in Europe, and 32 in the fillies’ only contest. Date With Destiny, Group 2 winner Formosina, I Love Me and Together are just some of the notable two-year-olds left in the races.
Heading the entries for the £500,000 Tattersalls Millions 2YO Trophy is Formosina, who won the Group 2 Railway Stakes in Ireland earlier this summer and was second on his most recent start in the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes .
The first race on the card is the Tattersalls Millions 2yo Fillies’ Trophy, which is worth £300,000. I Love Me, who is already a winner in this year’s Tattersalls Millions having won the £200,000 Tattersalls Millions Auction Trophy two weeks ago, has been left in both races,
But her trainer Andrew Balding commented: “Its 99 per cent certain that she will go to the fillies race on Saturday, but we have left her in both just as a precaution.
"She’s fine after the last race and will have one last spin on Wednesday morning. It was great to win the big pot on offer last time and her owner, Neven Botica, who is based in Perth, Western Australia, is toying with the idea of coming over for Saturday.”
There are three more races scheduled in the 2010/11 Tattersalls Millions, all of which take place in the first half of next year at Newmarket, with £550,000 still on offer. Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, featuring the only yearlings eligible for next year’s series takes place from October 5-7.
