Khawlah notches landmark win for Godolphin
SHEIKH Mohammed’s Godolphin operation celebrated their 1000th win in Britain when Khawlah landed the second division of the EBF Pie Emporium Maiden Fillies’ Stakes under Kieren Fallon.
Fallon has been in flying form of late and the Irishman had a treble on the day including on Khor Sheed in the feature £100,000 Tattersalls Millions Fillies’ Auction Stakes.
Khawlah, trained by Saeed Bin Suroor, was unlucky when runner-up on debut at Salisbury last time out but confirmed her promise with a length win over Elas Diamond.
An impressed Fallon said: “She’s a smart filly and could be top drawer next year.”
The Luca Cumani-trained Khor Sheed won the Empress Stakes on the July Course earlier this year and returned to that form to bag over £55,000 for her connections.
Her third to White Moonstone in the Sweet Solera Stakes reads well and she just did enough to hold Tale Untold by a short-head.
The field were taken along by the favourite Warm Breeze but she soon faded leaving Tale Untold in front.
Khor Sheed was being hard ridden by Fallon but she responded well to collar the leader inside the final furlong.
She is developing nicely,” the trainer said of the 7/2 winner. “We will now look at Group races over six furlongs and discuss it with the owner (Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum).
“But she is going the right way and all thanks to Tattersalls for putting on the race.”
State of Mind gave Fallon his first win of the day in the Express Coffee Cars Median Auction maiden for trainer Paul Cole.
The son of Zamindar was having his third career start and put his previous experience to good use, coming home half a length clear of the promising debutant White Frost.
Ollie Cole, assistant to his father Paul said: “He had the worst draw and probably would have won further he had been drawn better.
“Experienced counted and he has done it well. He is still a bit weak so we’ll probably leave him for the season now.”
Beatrice Aurore (16/1) took the second division of the EBF Pie Emporium Maiden Fillies’ Stakes for trainer John Dunlop and jockey Tom Queally.
The daughter of Danehill Dancer, having her second start, travelled well throughout and went on to score a little cosily by two lengths.
Queally said: “She is a nice filly and was still full of running at the two pole. She has a good attitude and is a decent prospect for next year.”
Azrael showed a likable attitude when battling hard to win the Express Cafe Nursery for trainer Alan McCabe and jockey James Doyle.
Doyle took over the running just over a furlong from home on the 8/1 chance and he did well to hold the late challenge from Ardour by a short-head.
A delighted McCabe said: “That was my 150th winner as a trainer so it was great. He has progressed nicely and is very game.
“We will bring him back here all being well for the Group 3 Somerville Tattersalls Stakes at the next meeting.”
Up In Time looked to be a filly with a bright future based on her demolition of the field in the Warrens Of Warwick maiden for trainer William Knight.
Jockey William Buick kicked his mount into the lead just under 2f from home and she surged clear to score by seven lengths.
Emily Knight, wife of the winning trainer said: “We hadn’t realised quite how much she had come on for her first run.
“William (Buick) only showed her the stick twice and said she was a nice filly. She’ll only have one more run this year.”
Buick and his boss trainer John Gosden have been unstoppable with their juveniles in recent days and added another winner to their tally when Rain Mac (4/1) landed the MC Seafood Median Auction Maiden.
Khalid Abdulla’s colt was a running-on seventh at Kempton on his debut and just outstayed the eventual second Halfsin and third Fulgur, who were seven lengths clear of the remainder.
Buick and Gosden capped another good days work when Liberty Cap took the last, the Norfolk County Ice Cream and Thai Street Cafe Nursery at odds of 20/1.
Racing resumes on the Rowley Mile tomorrow with the first race scheduled for 1:45
