JOCKEY Jack Mitchell gained the first Group winner of his career when landing the Sunley Criterion Stakes on Premio Loco.

It was the 18th winner of the season for the young jockey who also tasted high-profile success when winning the 'Dash' aboard Bertoliver on Derby Day.

His mount, trained by the in-form Chris Wall, looked to have a lot to do on paper and had to concede weight all round as a result of his Group 2 win in Germany last year.

However, Mitchell produced Premio Loco from last to first to get up inside the final furlong, beating the favourite Red Jazz by three quarters of a length.

A delighted Wall said of his 25/1 scorer: “That was really good. I thought he had a lot to do against race fit rivals as he was carrying plenty of condition but he’s done it well.

“We’ll think about the Summer Mile at Ascot in two weeks time for him next.”

Khor Dubai took the first of the supporting Listed races, the totesport.com Empress Stakes for trainer Luca Cumani and jockey Kieren Fallon.

Laaheb made it three wins on the July Course when taking the Betfair Fred Archer Stakes for trainer Michael Jarvis in the hands of Richard Hills.
