What a 'Show' - Channon lands Group 1

MUSIC Show (pictured above) hit all the right notes as she cut down her rivals with a stunning run that took her to victory in the Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes.

It was a dazzling display and gave jockey Richard Hughes a Group 1 win to add to the Group 2 he’d notched 40 minutes earlier on Memory in the Group 2 Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cherry Hinton Stakes.

There was a furious early tempo to the race as old rivals Spacious and Strawberry Daiquiri sparred on the front end.

Hughes, meanwhile, was content to settle his mount towards the rear and preserve her for a late charge.

Trainer Mick Channon’s charge travelled ominously well and was easily going best of all approaching the final two furlongs.

Hughes didn’t waste much more time in switching her to the outside and she picked up really well to surge past her rivals inside the closing stages.

She was going away at the line and had two lengths to spare from the gallant Spacious to complete her set of Group wins with a top-level triumph.

It came after a string of Group 1s in which things have not gone her way. But this was her day and all that was missing in the winner's enclosure was the trademark windmill celebration that Channon used up and down the country when a top-class footballer with Southampton among others.

He said: “She is a good filly and has proved it today. She has beaten the 1000 Guineas winner and beaten the Coronation Stakes winner. She has to be the best three-year-old filly in the country.

“Some wrote her off - it’s a good job we kept believing in her! We just needed a bit of luck in running with her and we got it here.”
