Music Show set for Leslie Harrison Memorial Nell Gwyn Stakes
Music Show (near side) ready for Leslie Harrison Memorial Nell Gwyn Stakes
Mick Channon believes that his Group One StanJames.com 1000 Guineas hope Music Show will come on for her seasonal reappearance in the £65,000 Group Three Leslie Harrison Memorial Nell Gwyn Stakes (4.10pm) at Newmarket on Wednesday, April 14th.
The Noverre filly is already a winner over the seven-furlong distance at the course, having landed the Group Two Lotus Evora Rockfel Stakes on October 17. That victory sees her carry a 3lb penalty in the Leslie Harrison Memorial Nell Gwyn Stakes, the premier trial for the Group One StanJames.com 1000 Guineas at the Rowley Mile on Sunday, May 2nd, which has 11 acceptors.
Channon revealed this morning: “Music Show has been very good through the winter and I am pleased with her. She is going to the Nell Gwyn as a trial for the StanJames.com 1000 Guineas.
“I know she is a decent filly. The form says she is decent and I won’t know anything different to that after the Nell Gwyn. She is going there because it is a trial and I think it will bring her on. It is perfect, really - the timing is just right.”
Music Show has won three of her four starts to date and is one of two StanJames.com 1000 Guineas entries for owner Jaber Abdullah, the other being Group Two winner and Group One Electrolux Cheveley Park Stakes third Lady Of The Desert, trained by Brian Meehan.
Distinctive was only seventh behind Music Show in the Lotus Evora Rockfel Stakes last term but had previously slammed that rival when storming to a three and three quarter-length victory in the six-furlong Group Three Firth Of Clyde Stakes at Ayr on September 19th.
The Tobougg filly’s trainer Bryan Smart believes his charge can be forgiven that Newmarket reversal and is pleased with her progress ahead of the Leslie Harrison Memorial Nell Gwyn Stakes.
The North Yorkshire handler revealed this morning: “Distinctive is in good nick with herself, she looks well and I could not be more pleased with her. She is working as well as she ever worked last year and if she reproduced her Ayr form she would have every chance.
“I think she was just a bit over the top when she went to Newmarket at the end of last season but she is in good order with herself now. If I had not ran her after her Ayr win, what price would she be for Wednesday? Because she was disappointing that day, she has been overlooked a little bit.
“I could not be more pleased with her and if she runs well in the Nell Gwyn we will definitely be taking her back to Newmarket for the StanJames.com 1000 Guineas.”
The fantastic field also includes the Jim Bolger-trained Atasari, second to Music Show in the Lotus Evora Rockfel Stakes.
