Turpin seeking to deliver in Jumeirah Dewhurst Stakes
Dick Turpin is on course to plunder another major prize for trainer Richard Hannon in the £317,350 Group One Jumeirah Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on Champions’ Day, Saturday, 17th October.
The Arakan colt could only come home fifth in the seven-furlong Group One Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp on 4th October but had previously made a faultless start to his career with four successive victories, all over six furlongs, to his name.
After posting wide-margin wins in a Windsor maiden and a Salisbury novice stakes, he made an impressive debut in Pattern company when taking the Group Two Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood and followed up with another comfortable victory in the lucrative Tattersalls Ireland Sales Stakes at Fairyhouse.
Richard Hannon jnr, assistant to his father, reported: “There’s every chance that Dick Turpin will run in the Jumeirah Dewhurst Stakes. We will make a final decision on Thursday morning but he is an intended runner as things stand.
“He’s come out of his run at Longchamp in good order and he didn’t really have a race there - he didn’t get any daylight and was shoved around from start to finish.
“I don’t think that seven furlongs on good ground will be a problem for him and he would have a great chance at Newmarket on the level of form he showed at Goodwood and Fairyhouse.
“He’s certainly a lot better than he showed in Paris and he’s not over the top at the moment.”
