CHAMPIONS’ Day finished in fitting style with trainer John Dunlop enjoying a milestone 250th winner at Newmarket as Akmal took the Jockey Club Cup under Richard Hills.
Forty three years ago the first chapter in the Sussex trainer’s extraordinary career was written as Tamino bagged the Palace House Stakes here on the Rowley Mile.
There have been a host of famous days for the trainer since with three 1000 Guineas winners sitting at the head of a long list of illustrious Dunlop triumphs over Newmarket’s two courses.
He said: “It is wonderful to reach this landmark at Newmarket where I trained my first-ever winner.”
