Ghanaati dazzles in stanjames.com 1000 Guineas win
GHANAATI wrote the latest chapter in trainer Barry Hills’ amazing year as she delivered a knock-out blow to her field in The stanjames.com 1000 Guineas.
Hills recorded both 3000 career winners and 300 Newmarket victories in what was a glorious April for him.
The 72-year-old’s extraordinary momentum was maintained at the start of May as the Giant’s Causeway built on a straightforward Kempton maiden victory with a scintillating Classic success.
Ghanaati, ridden by Richard Hills in the colours of Sheikh Hamdan, was always prominent before edging ahead of Cuis Ghaire at the 2f marker.
As she entered the final furlong Hills’ charge readily asserted, running on well to secure a 20/1 victory by a length and a half.
It was Lambourn-based Hills’ fifth Classic victory and second triumph in the 1000 Guineas following Enstone Park’s win here back in 1978.
Cuis Ghaire held on well for second spot with Super Sleuth grabbing third form Heart Shaped.
The 8/11 favourite Rainbow View suffered her first ever career defeat as she finished fifth.
Similarly, Cheveley Park Stakes winner Serious Attitude lost her unbeaten record and could only come seventh.
