Record entry for Purebred Arabians’ race
NO LESS than 33 entries have been received for one of the highlights of the UK Arabian Racing season, The Abu Dhabi International Stakes, which will be staged at Newmarket on Wednesday July 8.
This Group 2 race for Purebred Arabians, to be run on The July Course, has received more international entries than ever before including some of the top rated Arabians in the world and includes winners of 27 Group Races.
Runners from France, Belgium, Holland, Oman, UAE, Denmark, Sweden, Iraq, Saudi Arabia are among a sizeable entry from the UK.
Fryvolous, the highest-rated horse in the world, and winner of the Dubai Kahayla Classic on Dubai World Cup Day – among numerous other Group races – is based in Lambourn for the summer and has had this race included in his list of targets by trainer Rod Simpson.
Fellow entry Al Dahma has become one of the most successful Purebred Arabian racehorses of all time and her accolades include the Qatar Derby, the Malazgirt Trophy (Turkey) and the Coupe D’Europe (France). She dead-heated in The President of the UAE International Challenge Derby (Group 1 PA) at Newmarket in July 2006 on her only previous visit to England.
Also entered is the UK’s leading Arabian, No Risk Al Maury, who has won the Shadwell Dubai International Stakes (Group 1 PA) on the last two renewals and has remained unbeaten for the past two years.
The Royal Cavalry of Oman’s trainer, Julian Smart, is represented by Mutafani, who finished a respectable 2nd in the Zaabeel Stakes Group 1 PA at Newbury in 2008. He went on to win the final race of the season at Abu Dhabi in the winter and is sure to have returned to the UK with high hopes riding on him.
