Darley July Cup next for Scenic Blast

SCENIC BLAST will head to Newmarket for the Darley July Cup on Friday July 10 after blazing to glory in the King’s Stand, the first British leg of the Global Sprint Challenge.

The Australian sprint ace lit up the first day of Royal Ascot, scorching to success in the five-furlong Group 1.

He poured it on up the centre of the track to win by three parts of a length from the valiant runner-up Fleeting Spirit.

The winner, the 11/4 favourite, received a rapturous return to the winner’s enclosure along with his jockey Steven Arnold.

Trainer Dan Morton said: “I couldn’t be happier. We know we have a very good horse and that’s why we are here but - with the travelling and all the rest of it - it’s a big thing to get through and compete. Luckily enough, everything went to plan."

Now his Global Sprint Challenge quest is set to resume at the July Course in three-and-a-half weeks time.

Morton confirmed: “He’ll race next in the Darley July Cup. He won’t run in the Golden Jubilee - it was a back-stop, just in case.”
