Australian duo warm up for Darley July Cup

AUSTRALIAN speedsters Scenic Blast and Takeover Target were in action this morning as they galloped over 5f on the July Course.

Both horses are being prepared for a crack at the Group 1 Darley July Cup on July 10.

Scenic Blast was having his first piece of fast work since his emphatic win in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot last week.

He looked none the worse for that and strolled out enthusiastically under trainer and regular work rider Dan Morton.

Morton said: “He felt really nice. He has pulled out fine after Ascot and picked up really well for me over the last two furlongs this morning.

“He goes well fresh that’s why we missed the Golden Jubilee to come straight here. He felt the undulations of the track a bit but still felt nice.”

Takeover Target was forced to miss Royal Ascot due to a setback but looked back to his best today in the hands of his jockey Jay Ford.

Connections will be hoping he can go better than his seventh in the race three years ago and add to the £2.6million worth of prize money he has already won.

Trainer Joe Janiak said: “He’s on the way back and has recovered well. It was a good piece of work and if I get the chance I may try and come back next week. They didn’t muck about and it was a good solid work out- Jay was very happy with him.”
