Pure class from Pyrrha
Pyrrha - second successive win at Newmarket
NEWMARKET- based trainer Chris Wall looks to have a smart filly on his hands after Pyrrha’s smooth victory in the 7f Future Electrical Services Fillies’ handicap.
Jockey Alan Munro sat on the heels on the leader before easing into the lead with 2f to go.
She showed a good turn of foot, putting the race to bed in a matter of strides and going to on win by three lengths.
A delighted Wall said: “This was a very impressive performance, I didn’t expect her to win like that.
“We hoped she’d be up to Listed class so we’ll try that next in the Sceptre Stakes, for fillies over seven furlongs, at Doncaster on September 10.”
Destination Aim continued the fine form of the Godolphin team with a decisive victory in the opening race on the card the Newmarket Nights Median Auction maiden.
The son of Dubai Destination had clearly benefited from his debut fourth at Goodwood earlier this month and looks to be another smart individual for his connections.
Jockey Ted Durcan got a nice tow into the race by Argyll and took up the running just over 1f out.
He soon quickened clear of the rest of the field winning at the post by two and three quarter lengths.
“Friday nights at Newmarket have been very successful for us this season,” said Simon Crisford, racing manager for Godolphin, who have also been on target at HQ with promising juveniles Al Zir and Poet’s Voice.
“This horse came on both physically and mentally for his first outing and I think we’ll step him up to a mile next time out.”
Ajhar defied a 139-day absence to land the Burghley Horse Trials Conditions Stakes in impressive style under Pat Dobbs.
The Sheikh Hamdan-owned gelding tracked the pace set by Classic Punch before taking up the running inside the final furlong.
He quickened up strongly to scorch away from his rivals scoring by three and a quarter lengths at odds of 9-2.
Dashing Doc got off the mark at the fifth time of asking in the EBF maiden for trainer David Elsworth and jockey Philip Robinson. The son of Dr Fong stayed on strongly up the hill to land the spoils by half a length.
Elsworth said of his 11-4 winner: “He can run but he’s a bit thick, so we call him Forest Gump at home.
“He has come to hand slowly but he’ll be a nice horse for next year. We’ll give him a bit of a break now and perhaps give him a couple of runs towards the back end.”
Robinson completed a double aboard Kaolak in the Singh Skips, The Safe Bet handicap for trainer John Ryan. He made all aboard the 7-2 favourite to prevail by two and a half lengths.
Seamus Shindig was produced fast and late to land the NGK Sparks Plugs handicap under jockey Amy Scott for her boss trainer Henry Candy.
Sent off the 11-2 joint favourite, Scott held up her mount but finished with a flourish to collar Silaah in the shadow of the post.
Racing on the July Course resumes tomorrow with the first race scheduled for 1:50.
