Godolphin in double form

GODOLPHIN received another boost as Al Zir tonight increased their options for next year’s Stan James 2000 Guineas with a debut success in the July Course maiden.

The $1.6million sales-topper at Fasig-Tipton in March scored by four lengths from a nice-looking field to justify 15/8 favouritism. He was immediately introduced at 12/1 in the sponsor’s betting for the opening Classic of 2010.

Simon Crisford, racing manager to Godolphin, said: “That was a nice debut effort, a good first-time out experience for him. Frankie was pleased with him and he is a very likeable colt. There is no plan for him at this point - we will see how he comes out of the race and think about it.”

The Dubai team completed a double on the night with Prince Siegfried proving too good in the Newmarket Nights conditions stakes.

The other highlight on the night was provided by Clarietta, winner of the whitehot property nursery. Connections’ decision to opt for this rather than the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes was rewarded as she followed up her Doncaster maiden win with a three-parts of a length victory from Audacity Of Hope.

Lord Theo took the 1m 2f handicap, Silver Wind - second over course and distance a week earlier - prevailed in the 6f handicap and Flashy Lover was bought in following her victory in the Racing UK Sky 432 seller.
