Here and Now brings 80's to Newmarket Nights

Belinda Carlisle, T’Pau, Jonny Hates Jazz, Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Midge Ure, Curiosity Killed The Cat and Paul Young are live for one night only at the Newmarket July Course on Friday 19th June.

Belinda Carlisle; an original Hollywood singer, shot to stardom through her pop-rock classic ‘Heaven Is A Place On Earth’ and collared the essence of the era with her other hits ‘We Got the Beat,’ ‘Our Lips Are Sealed,’ Circle In The Sand’ and ‘We Want The Same Thing.’ With such a matchless voice; Carlisle can bring drama and meaning to any song which any audience can appreciate.

‘T’Pau’ – a successful pop/rock band first appeared in 1987 and their first album ‘Bridge of Spies’ went quadruple platinum. Carol Decker, a very vivacious character proved a memorable figure in the band and when the original line up split up in 1991 she continued to tour and record. The bands top hits included: most notably ‘China In Your Hand,’ which occupied the number 1 slot in the UK for 5 weeks. Carol Decker has continued her time in the limelight by making various appearances acting on television and now is featuring on the 80’s Here and Now Tour line up.

Formed in 1987, Jonny Hates Jazz was formed by two Englishmen and an American. Their first ever single – ‘Me and My Foolish Heart’ established the band’s reputation and with non-stop promotion their next single ‘Shattered Dreams’ was a worldwide hit. With countless TV appearances and broadcast performances, the band received the prestigious BMI award and this set them in motion as they shortly after released their hit album ‘Turn Back the Clocks.’ ‘Heart of Gold’ was a top seller form this but the end of the group meant that ‘The Last to Know’ was their last single in 1993. They are now reviving the band for a comeback; with Danny Saxon as their lead singer.

Described as cool and funky in the eighties; Curiosity Killed The Cat shows no signs of losing these descriptions. The band ripped apart the traditional teen fodder of the era by creating an explosion of distinctive lyrics and anthems that influenced teens particularly. The group had many top five hits including ‘Down To Earth,’ ‘Misfit,’ ‘Hang On In There Baby’ and ‘I Need Your Lovin.’ They are still performing live on TV and are sure to be one of the most popular artists of the night.

Kid Creole and the Coconuts are not ones to shy at. The showmanship of Bongo Eddie and the ‘Coco’ Dancers are sure to get any crowd shaking. 28 years of funk inspired, guitar licked swing-jazz entertainment has brought the group 15 albums achieving gold and platinum status and they still appear regularly on TV shows across the world.

Midge Ure enjoyed particular success in the 1970s and 1980s in bands including Silk, Thin Lizzy, The Rich Kids, Visage, and most notably as front-man of Ultravox. Ure co-wrote and produced the charity single "’Do They Know It’s Christmas,’ and co-organised Band Aid, Live Aid and Live 8 with Bob Geldof. In 1986 when Ultravox separated Ure launched a solo career and he produced the hit songs ‘If I was’ and Breathe.’ His services to music and charity earned him an OBE and he still continues his good work today.

Completing this incredible line up is legend of soul Paul Young, who first made his musical name with the Q-Tips. This period of his life gave him opportunity to develop his unique persona and stage presence. When the band separated in 1982 Paul launched a solo career and song such as ‘Whenever I Lay My Hat’, ‘Come Back and Stay’ and Every Time You Go Away’ ensured Paul’s dominance at the top of the charts. Young later collaborated with Crowded House to make the smash hit ‘Don’t Dream It’s All Over’ and throughout the nineties he continued to develop his song writing and played at intimate UK gigs. He is now performing on the Newmarket stage to complete the here and now eighties line up.

The event promises to be a night to remember and combines all the fun of the races with the exhilaration of an open air, live concert.
