Luca Cumani - 'Fantasia will run in Nell Gwyn'
FANTASIA will take hers seasonal bow in next week’s Leslie Harrison Memorial Nell Gwyn Stakes, trainer Luca Cumani confirmed this morning.
The daughter of Sadler’s Wells was second to Rainbow View in the Fillies’ Mile on her last start of 2008 after landing the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood.
The filly, who falls under the same ownership as her Ascot conqueror, is likely to miss The stanjames.com 1000 Guineas and head to the French equivalent instead a week later.
But Cumani couldn’t be more pleased with her and she impressed yesterday with an exciting spin under Kieren Fallon on the Limekilns.
Cumani said: “She worked excellently on Wednesday and we are very happy with her at the moment.
“She will run in the Nell Gwyn next week and after that we will have to see. She belongs to Mr George Strawbridge who also has Rainbow View and he probably would not want them both in the same race.
“So it looks like we will go to France with Fantasia, which may not be a bad plan as she could go back to France for Prix de Diane. I’m not sure she will stay our Oaks trip but I think she will get a mile and a quarter.”
