Seventy six go forward for Cesarewitch

Askar Tau, 5-1 favourite for the totesport.com Cesarewitch

A TOTAL of 76 horses, seven more than in 2007, remain after the first forfeit stage for the second leg of the Autumn Double, the £160,000 totesport.com Cesarewitch, over two and a quarter miles at Newmarket on Champions’ Day, Saturday, October 18, 2008.

The Marcus Tregoning-trained Askar Tau (8st) is sponsor totesport’s current market leader at 5/1. The progressive three-year-old colt has racked up a sequence of five victories since July, including the 15-furlong Breheny Handicap on the July Course last month, and recently further enhanced his claims with a facile victory in a Great Leighs handicap over two miles, picking up a 4lb penalty in the process.

The trainer commented: "He has been a very sound horse and the great thing at Newmarket is that, even in a big field, you can ride him as you want. He will settle in anywhere and has a good turn of foot."
