Newmarket to honour Sir Peter
NEWMARKET Racecourses is delighted to announce that it will celebrate Sir Peter O’Sullevan in the year of his 90th birthday by staging a race in his name.
On Racing South Africa Day, Saturday September 20, The NatWest Rowley Mile will host the Racing Association SA & Sir Peter O’Sullevan Maiden Stakes.
Sir Peter, the renowned BBC racing commentator for many years, will also be involved in the prize-giving after the 1m 4f race for three-year-olds.
Newmarket’s Director of Racing Michael Prosser said: “We are thrilled that Sir Peter will be joining us. He was a legendary broadcaster and is still a hugely respected figure in racing.
“We are only too pleased to help him celebrate his 90th birthday by holding the Racing Association SA & Sir Peter O’Sullevan Maiden Stakes.
“I should also add that it is a kind gesture by our race-day sponsors Racing South Africa, who were only too happy to share the race title with Sir Peter."
