Askar Tau cut for Cesarewitch success
totesport Cesarewitch favourite Askar Tau wins at The July Course last month
ASKAR TAU underlined his totesport Cesarewitch credentials when winning the two-mile handicap to complete a fabulous fifth straight success.
The three-year-old son of Montjeu bolted up by five lengths from Desert Sea and the sponsors responded by slashing him - 5-1 from 8s - for the second leg of the autumn double, scheduled for October 18 at Newmarket.
The Marcus Tregoning-trained colt, who won at The July Course on his previous outing, nabbed long-time leader Always Bold over 2f out and then surged clear down the straight to score.
Lambourn-based Tregoning said: “I’ve just got to keep him away from my jumping friends! I am thrilled with him but I have been pleased with him all year.
“He is a late developing progressive sort and I hope he will be a cup horse for next year. I’ ve always thought he is a cup horse in the making.
“He will run at Newmarket next month if he comes out of this fine. He gets a 4lb penalty now from winning here but that was essential to make sure he gets in the race.”
