CHARLIE FARNSBARNS recorded a surprise a 50/1 triumph in the Georgia House Stud Darley Stakes at Newmarket this afternoon.
Ryan Moore took advantage of a handy spare ride and trainer Brian Meehan’s charge lowered the colours of nearly horse Bankable, who was second for the fifth straight time.
Trainer Brian Meehan said: “He is a lovely horse. The totesport.com Cambridgeshire and his race at Bath last Sunday have just brought him on.”
Popular mare Barshiba, blinded in one eye when kicked as a foal, brought down the curtain on her career in the best possible fashion when delivering an 11/1 victory in the Lanwades Stud Several Stakes.
She held off Fragrancy in the closing stages of the Listed event to leave owner Jeff Smith almost dewy-eyed.
Smith said: “It’s all very emotional, really! She has had a wonderful career and is for the paddocks now.”
The other Listed contest, the EBF National Stud Boadicea Fillies’ Stakes, went the way of Ethaara, who was another big-priced scorer at 20/1 for trainer William Haggas. She was part of a three-timer on the day for jockey Richard Hills.
