Curtain comes down on 2008 season
With Interest (white cap) wins the bet365 James Seymour Stakes
WITH INTEREST took centre-stage with a 14/1 Listed success ahead of the curtain coming down on a stunning 2008 season at Newmarket.
The market spoke for Godolphin stable-mate Kirklees - sent off the 11/8 favourite for the bet365 James Seymour Stakes - but it was the Ted Durcan-ridden With Interest who found most in testing conditions on The NatWest Rowley Mile.
He came home with a length-and-a-quarter to spare from Kirklees with Bronze Cannon back in third.
It was fitting that Newmarket’s final race of the season went to trainer John Gosden, who saddled Virtual ahead of his victory in the bet 365 Ben Marshall Stakes.
Gosden started the 2008 campaign with a four-timer on the opening day of the Craven meeting. He subsequently went on to have an outstanding campaign - including two Breeders’ Cup triumphs - and Virtual’s length and a half win from General Elliott in the mile Listed event was simply the icing on the cake.
The other Listed race on the card went the way of Enticement, who maintained her unbeaten record with a short head success in the bet365.com EBF Montrose Fillies’ Stakes.
