GETAWAY proved a cut above his rivals striding clear in the final two furlongs to land the stanjamesuk.com Jockey Club Stakes by three-and-three-quarter lengths.

The Andre Fabre-trained son of Monsun travelled strongly for jockey Stephane Pasquier picking off a revitalised Sixties Icon with Sir Michael Stoute’s Galactic Star half a length back in third.

This was the second time Fabre and owner Baron Von Ullmann had landed this prize having been successful with Shirocco two years ago.

Fabre said: “He’s a horse that goes well fresh and he will improve because he doesn’t work well.”

And Fabre plans to return to these shores with last year’s Prix de l’Arc de Triumph fourth in the future.

“He will come back for the Coronation Cup [at Epsom],” said Fabre. “He will go for all the big money!”

There was a pulsating climax to the big sprint - the Stan James 08000 383384 Palace House Stakes - as Captain Gerrard used the rail to good advantage in holding Darley July Cup winner Sakhee's Secret by a neck.

Bryan Smart said of his 15/2 winner: "For a three-year-old to come out and do that is great. He got headed and battled back - he is brave horse."
