Chapple-Hyam planning big weekend in May

TRAINER PETER Chapple-Hyam is set to be represented in both the Stan JamesUK 2000 Guineas and the Stan JamesUK 1000 Guineas.

Unbeaten chestnut colt Winker Watson – a dual Group 2 winner, including the TNT July Stakes – is poised to go straight to The NatWest Rowley Mile on Saturday May 3.

Chapple-Hyam also outlined that Cape Amber, successful on her only start at two over seven furlongs, is an intended runner in the fillies’ Classic on May 4.

Assessing his 2000 Guineas prospect, he said: “Winker is in great form and will head straight to the Guineas.

“I am always changing my mind so he could possibly go to the Craven but at this stage he will go straight to the Guineas.

“On breeding, he is not certain to stay a mile but I believe he has a laid-back attitude and that he will stay.”

Less is known about Cape Amber, although she was very impressive when scooting up by three lengths in a seven-furlong maiden at The July Course last summer.

Chapple-Hyam added: “Cape Amber has done well over the winter and is a big filly, who was always going to be more of a three-year-old than a two-year-old.

"I am happy with her and she is an intended runner in the 1000 Guineas. In an ideal world, I'd like to give her a prep run somewhere beforehand.

"But if we end up just taking her for a racecourse gallop and going straight to the Guineas, then that's not a problem."
