Nahoodh too good for Cheveley Park pair

Frankie Dettori and Nahoodh win Falmouth - picture by Steve Cargill.

NAHOODH MADE up for her unlucky stanjamesuk.com 1000 Guineas fifth with a victory in the Group One UAE Hydra Properties Falmouth Stakes.

In a field missing ante-post favourite Darjina due to the softening ground, the Mark Johnston trained filly was held up by Dettori before delivering his challenge coming into the dip.

The 10-1 shot stuck on well to deny Infallible by one-and-three-quarter lengths with 3-1 favourite Heaven Sent a further three-quarters of a length back in third.

The filly was winning only the second race of her career and her first for Johnston since her move from Mick Channon earlier this year.

Johnston said: “We didn’t come here looking for this ground but Mick Channon’s staff told my staff she’d handle it.

“Frankie told us before today that she would be better over seven and it wasn’t until two days ago that we decided to run.”

He added: “To have a Group One winner is wonderful and we’ll be looking at all the big seven furlong and mile races for her.”
