NEWMARKET tomorrow stages the first day of a two-day meeting on the NatWest Rowley Mile course with a seven-race card due to start at 2.05pm.
The feature contest for three-year-olds is the six-furlong Animal Health Trust Handicap in which locally-based trainer Michael Jarvis sends out Ebn Reem on a salvage quest.
Jarvis’s charge looked most progressive when winning his first start of 2007 on the polytrack at Kempton but was then a disappointing favourite on his next outing at Ripon.
The son of Mark Of Esteem will bid to restore his reputation as a promising three-year-old sprinter as he tackles six rivals - including the interesting Golden Desert - at HQ in a £14,000 guaranteed event.
The same prize fund is also available in the NGK Spark Plugs Handicap which will see a field of 14 head to post. The revitalised Bustan, trained by Giles Bravery, comes into the contest off the back of a win and a second place respectively.
Several nicely-bred two-year-olds will showcase their talents in the opening European Breeders’ Fund Maiden for fillies. Henry Cecil, fresh from saddling Oaks favourite Passage Of Time at York, will be represented by Dea Caelestis.
The other maiden on the card - the betdirectpoker.com $50,000 Freeroll This Sunday - is also for fillies; this time three-year-olds. betdirect sponsors three other races on the card including the closing five-furlong sprint in which Windjammer’s connections will be hoping their improving three-year-old can complete a hat-trick
