Lyons positive ahead of HQ raid
GER LYONS is set to have his first ever runners at Newmarket on Wednesday afternoon - but he won‘t be there.
The Co Meath trainer will be represented by Queen Mary heroine Elletelle in the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cherry Hinton Stakes and also City Of Tribes, who tackles the totesport.com heritage handicap.
But Lyons will be busy taking care of business on the home front, preventing his attendance at HQ.
He explained: “My brother Shane travels our horses and, as at Ascot, he will supervise things. I would love to be at Newmarket, but we have a big team going to Naas (on Wednesday night) and it is only right that I am there.”
““But we are not coming over to Newmarket for their famous sausages – we fancy our chances, not only with Elletelle but also City of Tribes, who has already won at Chester this season and also ran an excellent race to chase home Hoh Mike in the Scurry Stakes at Sandown.
““Elletelle could not be in better form. She is now 14 kilos heavier than she was when she won at Ascot, and she is tough and genuine – a colt in a filly’s body.”
