Local Schools Star In July Course Concert

Tuesday 30th June, 2009

Choirs from seven local schools - Ditton Lodge, Burwell Primary, All Saints, Kennet Primary, Swaffham Bulbeck, Swaffham Prior and St Felix - plus one from the Stagecoach theatre group - will be participating in a free concert night on the July Course on Monday 6th July as part of the nine day Newmarket Festival programme of entertainment.

Also performing will be two professional singers from Ria Kane Productions, Louise Byrom and Thoedora Burrows, who will be bringing the glitzy world of musical theatre to the racecourse stage.

Each school will perform its own set of songs with around 300 children taking part overall. There will be a wonderfully varied repertoire, including hits from Boney M (“By The Rivers of Babylon”), Queen (“It’s A Kind of Magic”) and Abba (“Mammia Mia”) alongside traditional songs like “Swing Low Sweet Chariot”.

Gates open at 5.30pm with the concert starting at 6pm.  Admission to the July Course is free and everyone is encouraged to bring a picnic, although there will be a cash bar in operation.

“The Newmarket Festival, which starts with the Town Carnival on Saturday and runs through to the following weekend, provides a wonderful opportunity for our local community to come together through a series of special events,” said Stephen Wallis, Newmarket Racecourses’ Managing Director

“The Rowley Mile will host the post-Carnival celebrations on Saturday afternoon and the July Course will stage the school choirs concert.  With free admission to both events, I hope that many people will come along and enjoy them.”
