BORDERLESCOTT swooped to secure a first ever Group-race triumph with a thrilling win in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes.

Under jockey Pat Cosgrave, he nailed the five-furlong Group 1 in a record-breaking time of 56.09s under Pat Cosgrave.

He pegged back South African challenger National Colour to score by half a length and delight trainer Robin Bastiman.

He said: “Borderlescott is only small, but he has the heart of a lion. All roads lead to Paris and it will be the Prix de l’Abbaye at Long champ (on October 5) next.”

Lush Lashes confirmed that she is a seriously fine filly with success in the card’s other Group 1 - the Darley Yorkshire Oaks.

Again, there was a new record set with 2min 25.11s clocked by the daughter of Galileo, who scored by a length and a quarter from Dar Re Mi and proved that she truly does stay 1m 4f.

Winning trainer Jim Bolger said: “Her best distance is a mile, mile and a quarter and a mile and a half. They’ve all come alike to her, so we’ve got a wide range of options.”
