DRUMFIRE recorded his first win since his Solario Stakes victory in 2006 when winning the feature Young and Pure Conditions Stakes at Newmarket on Friday night

The four-year old son of Danehill Dancer gave trainer Mark Johnston his 100th domestioc winner of 2008 with a gutsy success in the 1m 2f contest.

Drumfire has gradually returned to top form since being involved in a serious incident at Glorious Goodwood last year that saw him sidelined for eight and a half months.

Here the 7/1 shot was held on the heels of the leaders by jockey Darryll Holland before hitting the front over two furlongs out.

When challenged inside the final furlong he battled on gamely to score by a length and a half and delight connections.

Johnston’s assistant Jock Bennett said: “There is more deserving success than this horse’s here. He’s really tough and we’re absolutely delighted to see him winning again.”
