Rosabee to line up in Sweet Solera
Thursday 7th August, 2008
VICKY Haigh is looking to land the biggest prize of her career with bargain filly Rosabee in the £50,000 Group Three skybet.com Sweet Solera Stakes (3.15pm) at Newmarket on Saturday, August 9.
Rosabee, who cost only 4,400 euros as a yearling at Goffs last October, is the highest rated of the 14 fillies set to contest the prestigious race over seven furlongs, which has a fantastic record of showcasing future Group One winners such as Soviet Song and Maids Causeway.
The No Excuse Needed filly failed to score in her first three outings in the spring but, following a rest, she returned in peak form to clinch a quick hat-trick of victories in the space of just 11 days last month.
She followed that with a staying-on effort to take second, one length behind African Skies, in the Group Three Princess Margaret Stakes over six furlongs at Ascot on July 26.
Haigh revealed today: "Rosabee hasn’t done a lot since Ascot - she’s a fit filly so we didn’t have to do a lot with her but she’s in good form and we’re looking forward to the skybet.com Sweet Solera.
“The step up to seven furlongs will definitely suit her and I’d even be confident in saying she’d get a mile next year as she’s a very big, scopey filly."
The Nottinghamshire trainer is enjoying a purple patch this season with 10 winners on the board, already double her 2007 total, and believes that Rosabee has the form in the book to give her a Group race triumph.
Haigh continued: "I’ve looked at the form and on the book she’s the best horse in the race. The Princess Margaret was a good race - the winner was less than three lengths behind Cuis Ghaire in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot after not getting a great run. If we’re only four lengths behind Cuis Ghaire, we’re a good filly.
"She’s entered in the Cheveley Park Stakes later on and the ground would suit her at that time of year. She’s one of the best two-year-old fillies in the country and you can’t ask more than that for three grand (sterling).”
