Shane Kelly rides out War Native in the EBF Maiden Stakes

WAR NATIVE leapt into consideration for next year’s Stan James 2000 Guineas when scoring in style on his debut on The July Course on August 1.

The Jeremy Noseda-trained colt cruised to success in the six-furlong EBF Maiden Stakes, winning by two-and-a-quarter lengths in the hands of jockey Shane Kelly. The bookies were impressed with the sponsors introducing him at 25/1 for the first Classic of next year.

Newmarket-based Noseda, who later completed a double at his local track when Awinnersgame landed the Home of Racing Novice Stakes, said: “War Native is a horse who has talent but is still babyish and we’ll most probably try and find a novices’ race for him next. Mentally, he has got to go the right way. If he learns how to do it properly, he has an engine.”

If Noseda’s brace was the highlight on the opening day of the meeting, then apprentice rider Louis-Philippe Beuzelin made a name for himself on the second day.

The French-born but Barbadian-raised17-year-old made a successful English debut when driving out Spy Eye to prevail in the Martin Heyes Matt Je Mar EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

Beuzelin said: "It's a dream start and I couldn't have asked for more. I'm hoping to have more rides - and more winners!”

Racing returns to The July Course next Friday - when Madness will play to a sell-out crowd - and also Saturday.
