Ryan Moore drives out EBF Conditions Stakes winner Pure Poetry

PURE POETRY’S win in Friday night’s EBF Conditions Stakes gave Ryan Moore his 100th winner of the season, prompting the jockey to declare: ‘let’s hope I can get to 200!’

The 11/8 favourite scored by a length from Laahig to make it back-to-back wins in the race for trainer Richard Hannon, who sent out Fat Boy to land it 12 months ago.

The 6f contest for juveniles was also won by subsequent Gimcrack winner Balmont back in 2003 but connections were just pleased to celebrate Pure Poetry’s second career win rather outline fancy future plans.

Ron Wood, husband to the owner Julie Wood, said: “He has done it very well and Ryan was pleased with him. He felt that the horse had more to give. The talk before today was that if he won well here we might look to step him up assuming he comes out of this alright.”

Eastern Anthem is set to head into Group company for the first time after powering to a 10-length victory in the Turf TV Conditions stakes. The Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes is now the target for the Godolphin horse after his straightforward win under Frankie Dettori.

Friday, July 25, 2008 will always be a red-letter day for amateur jockey Peter Jones. The 19-year-old defied a slipping saddle to make his first public ride a winning one as he cleverly steered home 9/1 shot Laish Ya Hajar in the Bollinger Champagne Challenge Series Handicap.

The feature on Saturday’s card was the 7f EBF Celia Miller Fillies Handicap Stakes and was won by the Ed Vaughan-trained Medicea Sidera, who secured a hat-trick of victories at this track following two wins here last summer.

George Baker, who rode a double on the day, made all on the 11/2 shot setting a good pace before quickening three furlongs out. When challenged inside the final furlong by the favourite, Meydan Princess, she battled on well to score by half a length.

Trainer Ed Vaughan said: “She loves it here and is very tough and we will maybe now look for a listed race abroad for her.

Parisian Art made a winning racecourse debut when securing the 7f S.C.B Ltd NSPCC Maiden Stakes for two-year olds over 7f. The son of Clodovil made all under jockey Tom Queally to score by an impressive five lengths.

Trainer Jeremy Noseda said: “We were very happy with that. We may be bold and go for something like the Acomb Stakes at York next month.”

Noseda made it a double on the day when 8/1 shot Grande Annee won the Coolus Air Conditioning Handicap over a mile, while Ask The Butler was a well backed 15/8 favourite in the 1m 2f Turf TV handicap and duly obliged by two lengths.

Racing returns to The July Course next Friday when The Feeling will play a concert after the six-race card. Tickets are available and for more information, please call 01638 675500 or find out more on this website.
