This Friday - great action on and off the track

Thursday 24th July, 2008

REGGAE BAND UB40 with star guest Maxi Priest take centre stage on Friday as part of the ever popular Newmarket Nights series.

However, as always, the preceding racing will provide competitive and intriguing action on the track.

The feature of the seven-race card is the TurfTV Conditions Race over 1m4f for horses who have not won a Group 1 or 2 since 2006. This race has attracted some high-class performers such as Godolphin’s Eastern Anthem and the John Dunlop trained Munsef.

Eastern Anthem, a son of Singspiel, has been placed in all of his five starts and was last seen finishing third at York in a Listed race.

He is sure to be involved in the shake up as is the ever consistent six-year old Munsef who has recorded four wins and has a further 12 placed efforts in his career.

Also on the card is the EBF Conditions Stakes for two-year olds over 6f. Some interesting juveniles have been declared for this including the Ed Dunlop-trained Zaffaan. This son of Efisio was a convincing winner of a maiden at Ascot last time out and looked like a horse with a future.

As did Dove Mews for the Michael Bell team. She won her only start here at the July Course in June and is likely to be involved at the finish in the hands of Hayley Turner.

This race is preceded by the Drive Vauxhall Bury St Edmunds Nursery for two-year olds over 7f. Chances are, there will be some improving types in this to keep tabs on.

The newmarketracecourses.co.uk maiden stakes is sure to throw up a horse to follow and for all those who like competitive handicaps there are three of these to tackle: The Bollinger Champange Challenge Series handicap (for gentlemen amateur riders), the Newmarket Nights Handicap and the July Course Handicap.

The racing gets underway at 5:45 with admission to the Premier Enclosure priced at £28, Grandstand and Paddock £18 and the Garden Enclosure £12.
