John Gosden - another July Course double-strike

TRAINER JOHN Gosden scooped the Plantation Stud Stakes with Dar Re Mi emerging victorious by three parts of a length from Folk Opera.

Having been eased into Listed grade from Group 2 company, the 5-2 joint favourite travelled smoothly in midfield under jockey Richard Mullen before delivering her effort from 3f out.

Once asked to go about her business the Singspiel filly stayed on in strong style to win by three quarters of a length.

Gosden said: “It was very pleasing to see her win because she had a rough ride at York in the Musidora and was then a bit unlucky in France last time.

“She got stuck in fifth from an outside draw off a slow pace and still nearly got there. So she really deserved this stakes win and it is very important for her to be a ‘black type’ winner as she is well bred.”

Gosden added that the filly is likely to head back to France next for either a Group 2 on August 10 or a Group 3 four days later.

The Listed success gave Newmarket-based Gosden a double on the day after Lake Windermere landed the odds in the second division of the Lettergold Maiden Stakes. It was the second day on the trot that the Newmarket-based trainer had registered a brace on his home course. Meanwhile, the opening division of the maiden had gone the way of the Jeremy Noseda-trained Liberation Spirit.

The £20,000 Adnams East Green Handicap Stakes saw Mark Johnston’s Always a Rock secure the spoils. The 6-1 chance made all to complete a three-timer following wins at Wolverhampton and Musselburgh. It also paid to race handily in the Invesco Perpetual E.B.F Fillies Handicap over 6f where Carcinetto also managed to make every yard for jockey Richard Evans.

Rileyskeepingfaith built on a positive debut at Ascot when scoring at a price of 7-2 in the July Course Maiden Stakes over 6f. Daylami Dreams proved toughest in his battles with Alonso de Guzman coming home by half a length in the Newmarket racecourses.co.uk handicap.

The final race on the card was the TuftTV Handicap Stakes over 5f and Sohraab prevailed in the hands of Travis Block.

Newmarket’s next two-day fixture begins on Friday July 25 with UB40 and special guest Maxi Priest performing a concert after the seven-race card.
