Classic Blade gives trainer Tom Dascombe first group success - picture by Steve Cargill
CLASSIC BLADE gave trainer Tom Dascombe his biggest career success with a gutsy short head victory in the Group Two TNT July Stakes.
The 6-1 shot described as a “lovely, straightforward horse” by his trainer jumped out into a lead and was never headed over the six-furlong trip.
The once-raced Sayif thundered home up the Newmarket hill but ran out of time to grab victory and the 2-1 favourite Prolific was a never dangerous third, three lengths further back.
A 19,000 euro purchase from Tattersalls Ireland, the two-year-old had won two of his previous three starts including a conditions event at Salisbury last time out.
Dascombe, who was understandably delighted with his Daggers Drawn colt, said: “I entered him on a whim because we didn’t know where to go with the horse.
“It’s wonderful to get a group winner and he’s a tough horse. Also a big thank you to my staff we’ve got at home.”
