Sprint stars targeted at Darley July Cup

THE MOUTH-WATERING prospect of this year’s first and second from the Golden Jubilee Stakes clashing in the Darley July Cup looks set to be the agenda.
Both John Best, trainer of Ascot hero Kingsgate Native and the runner-up War Artist’s handler James Eustace are targeting the fourth leg of the Global Sprint Challenge staged on The July Course on Friday July 11.
Best reported that his star sprinter - a 33/1 winner of the Golden Jubilee Stakes - had take his race well and pointed the way to the £400,000 feature of Newmarket‘s Ritz Club July Festival..
He said: “He seems really well and will certainly be going for the July Cup next.”
Newmarket-based Eustace was also happy with the way his charge had come out of the six-furlong Group 1 and indicated that the Darley July Cup was the ‘obvious’ choice for War Artist.
Last year’s winner of the race Sakhee’s Secret didn’t fire at Ascot where he was hindered by the loss of a shoe.
But it’s all systems go for him attempting a repeat bid for Darley July Cup glory in what is sure to be a cracking renewal of Europe’s premier sprint event.
