Australian sprint ace Takeover Target is on course for a shot at the Group 1 Darley July Cup at Newmarket on Friday July 11.

The seven-year-old star was second in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot yesterday and heads to the Golden Jubilee Stakes on the same track this Saturday.

But he is among the 47 horses who remained in the £400,000 Darley July Cup at today’s forfeit stage.

Takeover Target’s trainer Joe Janiak said: "If he pulls up well on Saturday, he will go to the Darley July Cup. We know more about the track than when he was seventh in 2006 - we’ll put more work on him this time."

Darjina set for cross-Channel raid

TOP-CLASS French filly Darjina was today revealed among the 35-strong entry for the UAE Hydra Properties Falmouth Stakes, which will be staged at Newmarket on Wednesday, July 9.

Last year’s French 1000 Guineas winner went so close to Royal Ascot glory yesterday, finishing second to Haradasun in the Queen Anne Stakes.

But her trainer is planning to seek consolation in the fillies’ Group 1 on The July Course.

Royer-Dupre said: "All being well, Darjina may go for the Falmouth Stakes."
