Newmarket Racecourses are pleased to announce that UB40 with special guest Maxi Priest, have now re-confirmed for this year’s Newmarket Nights, completing the already magnificent line-up. They will perform live at Newmarket’s July Course on Friday 25th July.

For well over 25 years, UB40 have entertained audiences with their unique, reggae music. During this time the band has had huge worldwide success with three UK number 1 singles (“Red, Red Wine”, “I Got You Babe and “Can’t help falling in Love”) and two UK number 1 albums (“Labour of Love” and “Promises and Lies”). In 2003 UB40 received an Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement in recognition of their commitment to music.

Stephen Wallis, Managing Director of Newmarket Racecourses, said: “We are thrilled that UB40 will be performing at our 2008 Newmarket Nights. The group played at Epsom Live! in 2006 and Sandown Park in 2007 and were hugely popular and fun on both occasions. I am sure they will be a great success here at Newmarket.”

The band were originally due to perform at Newmarket Nights on Friday 18th July, but had to cancel due to the departure of lead singer, Ali Campbell. Duncan Campbell (Ali and Robin’s brother) has now been officially announced as the new lead singer having previous performed with them on a number of occasions despite never being an official member.

The multi-cultural band is now made up of  ten members; James Brown (drums), Duncan Campbell (vocals), Robin Campbell (guitar/vocals), Earl Falconer (bass/vocals), Norman Hassan (percussion/vocals), Brain Travers (saxophone/keyboard/WX11), Michael Virtue (keyboards), Tony Mullings (Keyboards), Martin Meredith (Saxophone/Keyboards), Laurence Parry (Trumpet/Flugal Horn/Trombone) and Astro (vocals/additional Percussion). Notably the group named themselves after the Unemployment Benefit Form 40.

UB40 will be joined on stage by special guest, Maxi Priest. English singer / songwriter, Maxi first launched onto the British music scene in 1988 with his first major self-titled album. He joined the UB40 tour at the end of 2007 which culminated in sell out shows in Birmingham and an extended tour with UB40 throughout summer of 2008.
