Godolphin poised for stanjamesuk.com 2000 Guineas

Monday 28th April, 2008

GODOLPHIN are keeping their options open regarding running plans in this Saturday’s stanjamesuk.com 2000 Guineas - the 200th running of the famous Classic at Newmarket’s NatWest Rowley Mile.

According to the sponsor’s betting, Ibn Khaldun - successful in the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy last October - looks the most likely to give the Boys In Blue a third victory in the race.

A 6/1 shot with Stan James, he, Fast Company and Rio De La Plata remained in the stanjamesuk.com 2000 Guineas at today’s five-day entry stage.

Godolphin are expected to field two from that trio this weekend, but as their trainer Saeed Bin Suroor indicated, nothing has been set in stone yet.

Bin Suroor said: “They are all in good form, but there's no decision yet about the three. We are happy with all three of them, they are sound and healthy and will have a blow-out later in the week."

A total of 19 entries stood their ground at the latest acceptance stage and they are headed by 2/1 favourite New Approach.

Other notable contenders for the 200th running of the 2000 Guineas include the Group 3 banshahousestables.com Craven Stakes second Raven's Pass, while Sir Michael Stoute has left the Saeed Suhail-owned Perfect Stride among the entries.
