TRAINER Barry Hills registered a superb 103-1 treble at Newmarket today with Spinning Lucy’s Listed victory providing the highlight.
The daughter of Spinning World made every yard a winning one in the six-furlong EBF Bosra Sham Fillies’ Stakes as she beat the fast-finishing Dubai’s Princess by a length with Bett’s Spirit back in third.
Her season started on the NatWest Rowley Mile at the Craven Meeting back in April when she was third on debut. But it took until mid-October for her to finally break her maiden tag thanks to a Redcar win. This 10-1 triumph saw her further enhance her value as she added some ’black type’ to her pedigree.
Charlie Hills, assistant to his father, said: “We always thought a lot of her and I hope she will now winter well before going on. We may look for one of the Guineas trials, all being well, next spring. She shows plenty of speed but seven furlongs would not be a problem to her.”
The Hills’ team had already made their mark with Almoutaz in the six-furlong maiden, while from the same Lambourn yard Foolin Myself took the honours in the second division of the Prestige Vehicles EBF maiden.
The first division had earlier been shrouded in controversy as Black Rain was awarded the race in the stewards’ room after Classic Descent beat him home by a short head. The stewards deemed there had been interference and reversed the placings which may have a telling effect on the jockeys’ title as Jamie Spencer was aboard Black Rain and stretched his lead over nearest rival Seb Sanders, who rode Classic Descent.
Spencer was on Foolin Myself to further extend his advantage but Sanders later reduced the gap to four at the meeting’s close courtesy of victory on Double Banded in the Alfie Westwood Lifetime In Racing. The other winners on the day were Oh Glory Be (EBF Spaceworks Furniture Hire Fillies’ handicap), Paco Bay (who beat her elders in the NGK Spark Plugs conditions race) and Drawn Gold (TurfTV Apprentice Stakes).
