John Gosden - could be triple-handed in search for second Cambridgeshire crown
CONNECTIONS of Pipedreamer have fingers crossed for a big performance from their horse in this Saturday’s totesport.com Cambridgeshire at Newmarket.
Cheveley Park Stud’s three-year-old is the general 5-1 favourite for the first leg of the autumn double on the Nat West Rowley Mile course.
The son of Selkirk has been nicely progressive, chalking up three wins in his five career starts.
His latest success arrived at Glorious Goodwood on August 2 when he was impressive in landing a 1m 2f handicap by a length-and-a-half off a mark of 93.
The handicapper has raised him 9lb since then but Pipedreamer is expected by many to once again prove competitive as he bids to give trainer John Gosden a second triumph in the Cambridgeshire - the first was provided by Halling in 1994.
Chris Richardson, managing director of Cheveley Park, said: “John has done a terrific job, and, though Pipedreamer is climbing up the handicap, he keeps on surprising us.
“He was such a big, sloppy horse last year, but John has allowed him to find his feet, and Pipedreamer, who comes from the same family as Echelon, could not have been more impressive at Goodwood - so we have to be hopeful.”
Gosden has two other entries in the race, Escape Route and Ekhtiaar.
