Autumn Home of Racing Tours Announced

Tuesday 25th September, 2007

Fascinating behind-the-scenes tours to the Animal Health Trust and Horseracing Forensic Laboratory will be on offer to Newmarket racegoers on a first come, first served basis this autumn.

Lisa Hancock, Newmarket's Managing Director, said: "Newmarket is a town like nowhere else on earth, where the racehorse is king and where there are so many interesting horseracing-related places to visit. We hope to enable a small number of our racegoers to visit some of these prior to racing on our bigger days.

“In the spring, the tours of Clive Brittain’s yard and Cheveley Park Stud were a huge success and we received excellent feedback from those who went.”

Home of Horseracing Tours

Following the very popular introduction at the 2006 Stan James Guineas Festival of pre-racing tours to Newmarket racing venues that would not normally be open to the public, the autumn visits have now been confirmed.

The tours will cost £15 per person and must be booked in advance, on a first come, first served basis by calling 01638 675 500. Previous tours sold out very quickly so early booking is advisable as numbers are strictly limited.

A coach will depart from the Grandstand and Paddock turnstiles at the NatWest Rowley Mile at 10.15am prompt. Tours will last approx 1 ½ hours and racegoers will be brought back to the NatWest Rowley Mile in plenty of time to enjoy superb day of racing.

Friday 5th October – A visit to the Animal Health Trust

The Animal Health Trust located just 4 miles outside of Newmarket in Kentford is a charity that has been helping dogs, cats and horses for more than half a century, providing specialist veterinary clinical, diagnostic and surgical services.  The Trust’s successes in research have ranged from major breakthroughs in anaesthesia and surgical techniques to the development of vaccines against diseases such as canine distemper and equine influenza.

The scientists and veterinarians, many of whom are world leaders in their field, work alongside bringing together a wide range of expertise for a co-ordinated attack on animal diseases and injuries.

Friday 19th October – A visit the Horse Racing Forensic Laboratory.

The Horseracing Forensic Laboratory located a few miles outside Newmarket is the only laboratory in the world engaged in both sports drug surveillance and contract research, testing athletes and racing animals as part of forensic doping control processes and providing research and testing services on behalf of pharmaceutical, food, consumer products and healthcare clients.

Guests will be taken on a tour of the HFL facilities and a representative will also give a short presentation.
